Love With Eyes has been produced by Bairo Ling Australia at the request and under the direction of His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa. It features the spoken word of His Holiness set to original music by Kunga. The wisdom cannot be stretched too far. Neither the music. That is what LOVE WITH EYES proves. The second album of a unique genre, it keeps the pace and the delight with a deeper sophistication of sound---more layers, more humour and a smoother texture to match the ground-breaking step of the first disc of the series: ALL THE BEINGS. First of all, no-one has dared to capture the sensibility of a high Buddhist master such as The Gyalwang Drukpa in this way. This is the first time. Perhaps no-one will ever try quite the same thing again. At least at this moment, we can say that these two CDs deserve the true label of ‘unique’. But, not just unique. As a piece of artistry, the tracks poke directly at the essence of the human mind more than can be claimed even by such poetic artists as Van Morrison whom I highly admire for telling some truths in the twists and turns along the road. The title track of LOVE WITH EYES, which is actually called ‘Kindness’, tells us that so-called ‘love’ is very dangerous. Very dangersous indeed! It then leads us to the sublime truth that what we need is love that is not blinded by so many things, ‘love with eyes’. This track, and others such as ‘Fanaticism’, which courageously deals with life after 9/11, blend the poignancy of the Gyalwang Drukpa’s spontaneous conversation with Kunga’s music in a gelling synonymous motion. This is a listener’s album. It could disappoint those who just want to stick something on while they empty the washing machine. But at the end of the day, it makes sense to stop and listen. - Brian Ursich, Executive Producer - |
