Practice

The Drukpa Lineage is known as Dongyu Pelden Drukpa in Tibetan, and is reknowned as a "practice lineage" with the emphasis of the school being on spiritual practice and the integration of its result into ones day-to-day life, as opposed to an academic or philosophical training in Buddhism. It was due to this approach that the school became famed throughout the Himalayan region for the attainments of its students.

As part of the "Lineage of Yogis", we hold regular practice sessions at the London Centre.

Traditional vajrayana practice involves meditation, liturgy and mantra recitation. It is best to have received an introduction to the practice from a qualified master, such as His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa. The different practices involve meditation and examination on such ideals as Compassion (Chenrezig), Knowledge (Manjushri) and Healing (Medicine Buddha). These are traditionally rendered in a figurative manner and are represented by the Boddhisattvas and Buddhas, as indicated above where the ideal of limitless Compassion is represented by the Boddhisattva Chenrezig. Typically, the practices at the centre last between one and two hours.

In addition to these deity practices, we also hold regular mantra accumulation sessions dedicated to the long life of His Holiness - these are known as Shabten prayers.
