The Ninth Kyabje Drukpa Choegon Rinpoche will be giving a public talk on “The Four Noble Truths” at Hampstead Old Town Hall on Saturday 25th July from 3pm.
At the request of His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa, the Ninth Kyabje Drukpa Choegon Rinpoche Ngawang Tenzin Chokyi Gyatso will be visiting the UK for the first time this July. The Choegon Rinpoches are regarded as extremely important within the Drukpa lineage and are revered as emanations of Vajrapani – the powerful aspect of the Buddha’s teaching. His Eminence works closely with His Holiness the Dalai Lama as his main Hindi translator in the Himalayan region.
This first visit by His Eminence presents a great opportunity to meet an authentic Himalayan Buddhist master. He is known as being very learned, yet speaks with great warmth, compassion and humility. These qualities have enabled him to re-convert areas back to Buddhism in the Kinnaur region of India, and he regularly leads one hundred million mantra recitations in Ladakh. In this talk, His Eminence will be explaining the Four Noble Truths – the fundamental teaching of the Buddha, regarded as the basis of the buddhist way of life.
Following His Holiness’ wishes we have now found and moved into the new Drukpa Kunga Peljor Centre in London.
Last Sunday, on 14th June, Drubpon Nawang came to London and very kindly inaugurated the centre. We were all so happy to celebrate and dedicate the centre to His Holiness as we chanted mantras for His Long Life.
The Ninth Kyabje Drukpa Choegon Rinpoche Ngawang Tenzin Chokyi Gyatso will be giving two afternoon talks on the 24th and 25th July 2009. The venue is yet to be decided, so check back or subscribe to the email or RSS updates to stay informed.
The Ninth Kyabje Drukpa Choegon Rinpoche Ngawang Tenzin Chokyi Gyatso is a very active teacher in Ladakh, Kinnaur and Kullu, where he has recently constructed a monastery near the holy place of Chakrasamvara. Since 1985, he has presided over a Hundred Million Mani Mantra recitation nearly every year in Ladakh. He is also reknowned for reconverting some parts of Kinnaur back to Buddhism and away from ritual sacrifice. His main seat is in Dehra Dun – Dechen Choekhor Ling.
This will be Rinpoche’s second teaching tour in Europe – those who met him in Plouray or Paris last year enjoyed his genuine warmth, humilty and understanding of the Dharma.
Since Sunday’s teaching by Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo – “Transforming the Mind” at
the Brunei Gallery has sold out, we are providing a live webcast as an
alternative way to see and hear the teaching. It will be viewable on
http://www.justin.tv/drukpauk
The teaching starts at 10:00. Due to the format of the stream, it is not
possible for us to store it online at this point for later viewing, so this
is a “live only” event.
With the new centre now in place, we will be announcing a new programme which will hopefully include something for everyone – from an introduction to Buddhism for those curious to find out more, the five per month regular practices [Yangti, Sengey Tsewa, Vajrayogini, Sengye Menla, Amitabha] as per the last centre, regular visits from Drubpön Nawang – His Holiness’s representative in Europe, and a place to find out more about Live to Love.
Make sure to subscribe to the email list [or RSS updates] to receive the latest updates.
We are very happy to announce that Drukpa Kunga Peljor (as the Drukpa London centre is known) has a new location in Primrose Hill. We received the keys on Friday, by happy coincidence Drubpön Nawang was coming to London for a brief visit on Monday and so was able to host the first practice session.
In the next couple of weeks, we will paint and carpet the centre, then announce the new practice schedule. If you would like to help with the redecorating, please contact us.
